During her Burgenland visit on May 25, 2014, U.S. Ambassador to Austria Alexa Wesner visited the company Pioneer in Parndorf. The trip was organized by Roswitha Krautgartner, FAS Vienna. After a presentation of Pioneer’s activities in hybrid corn development, production, processing and marketing, the Ambassador toured the seed testing laboratory and the parental seed plant processing facility. Ms. Wesner who holds a degree in biology enjoyed the tour and was impressed by the company, the team and the facilities. Pioneer Parndorf, a subsidiary of DuPont produces annually half a million packages of hybrid corn seed, of which 75 % is being exported. About 400 farmers are producing hybrid corn seed for the company under contract. With 155 employees Pioneer Parndorf is one of the most important employers of the region.
March 18, 2014 U.S. Ambassador John B. Emerson visits GO WEST California Wine Tasting
Tuesday, March 18, 2014 - U.S. Ambassador John B. Emerson and Mrs. Kimberly Marteau Emerson opened the "Go-West California Wine Tasting" in Hamburg. Organized by the California Wine Institute, this event matched more than 200 German wine enthusiasts with representatives from over 100 Californian wineries.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Emerson emphasized the U.S. industry's Sustainable Winegrowing Program and California being honoured in 2013 with the prestigious Drinks Business "Green Awards."
In 2013, U.S. wine exports to Germany nearly doubled to $110 million.
